STAY FRESH’s 31 DAYS OF HALLOWEEN: Year Seven, Day Twenty-Five

Remember when bedtime felt like an adventure? When the dark wasn’t just dark, but full of stories we half believed and half invented? He isn’t looking for trouble, only making sure it isn’t looking for him. We outgrow the monsters under our beds, but never the magic of believing they were there.

DAY 25– Monster Under the Bed

There’s something timeless about that flicker of fear, the way imagination could turn a pile of clothes into a creature or the wind into a whispering voice. Childhood was a strange mix of wonder and worry, where every shadow held a secret and every creak was a warning. Yet in those moments, we learned to be brave, armed with nothing more than a flashlight and the courage to look.

As adults, we trade those monsters for different ones, quieter and less easy to name. But part of us still remembers what it felt like to stare into the dark and feel both terrified and alive. Maybe that’s why we tell stories like this each October, to honor that fearless child who dared to check under the bed, just to see what might be waiting.
