Once upon a suburb, there lived a boy with scissors for hands and a heart too pure for this world. He never meant to frighten anyone, but only to shape the world into something softer.

Tim Burton’s Edward Scissorhands (1990) isn’t just a gothic fairytale, it’s a love letter to the misunderstood. Starring Johnny Depp in one of his most hauntingly tender roles, the film tells the story of an unfinished creation left to navigate the pastel perfection of suburbia. Between hedge sculptures, ice shavings, and heartbreak, Edward became the face of beautiful misfits everywhere; the ones who love too deeply and fit too strangely.
Burton first dreamed up Edward as a teenager in Burbank, sketching a lonely figure with blades for hands, which was a reflection of his own sense of isolation in a world that prized conformity. Decades later, that sketch would blossom into a story filled with snow, sorrow, and quiet wonder.
More than three decades on, Edward Scissorhands still feels like a dream you half-remember. Delicate, sad, and dusted in snow. It reminds us that the sharpest edges often hide the softest hearts.
