Oh no, not again! One wrong rhyme and poof! She’s a puddle. Steam is rising, her hat is floating, and her green goo is everywhere. For someone who’s half-melted, she’s really holding it together. At least her hat survived.
Her fingers twitch, her hat wobbles like it’s waving hello, and if you listen closely, you might hear a tiny, frustrated cackle escaping from somewhere beneath the puddle.
DAY 23– Meltdown

Witches have always captured our imagination, though they have been portrayed in wildly different ways throughout history. In early folklore, witches were often feared as dangerous women who could curse crops, summon storms, or manipulate fate itself. Medieval European depictions leaned heavily into this dark, sinister image, painting witches as agents of the devil with pointed hats, cauldrons, and broomsticks.
By the 20th century, media softened their edges. From the whimsical mischief of Disney’s The Black Cauldron and Hocus Pocus to the more eccentric, lovable figures in cartoons and books, witches became characters we could laugh with and even root for. Even in horror films, their powers are often accompanied by a flair for drama, with glowing eyes, bubbling potions, and just the right amount of theatrical chaos.
Our half-melted witch fits perfectly somewhere in between. She is messy, magical, and chaotic, but not truly frightening. She embodies the playful side of witchcraft that has long existed alongside the darker, more mysterious legends. Even when things go horribly wrong, she is still somehow charming. And yes, at least her hat survived.
